After a civil war in which ninja with kekkei genkai fought each other, people were left afraid of those powers and began persecuting whoever had them. The Yuki, bearers of Ice Release, had to go into hiding. On the bridge, Haku tells how his mother hid that blood; when his father discovered his son had inherited it, the violence destroyed the family and left Haku alone on the streets, until Zabuza took him in. In the story, Haku stands for that persecuted lineage, without his parents being given names.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-29","pos":29},{"h":"Ice Release and the mirrors","t":"Ice Release combines the water and wind natures in a kekkei genkai. Its best-known technique is the Demonic Ice Mirrors, which the clan is said to have passed down from generation to generation: the user forms a dome of mirrors around the enemy and leaps from one to another at great speed, throwing senbon from every angle. Haku uses it against Sasuke and Naruto on the bridge and brings them to the brink of defeat, until the Nine-Tails' chakra shatters the mirrors. Haku also masters medicine and vital points, which lets him fake deaths with needles.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-28","pos":28},{"h":"Haku's end","t":"Haku sees himself as Zabuza's tool, which is why he steps in front of Kakashi's Chidori to save him. His death changes Zabuza, who acknowledges what he felt for him and charges at Gatō before dying beside Haku. What happened to the rest of the clan is unknown: its members are presumed to have been killed or, like Haku's mother, to have lived in silence without revealing their blood. The snow falling in the arc's final scene is a nod to the clan's name, which means precisely “snow”.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-32","pos":32},{"h":"The clan's shadow in the war","t":"In the Fourth Great Ninja War, Kabuto resurrects Haku with the Reanimation Jutsu along with Zabuza. Haku keeps his Ice Release and his mirrors, but Kabuto erases his personality so he fights without hesitation. Even so, he holds Kakashi so Zabuza can run them both through, repeating on another scale what he had done on the bridge. During this stage, kekkei genkai and their bearers are still called “cursed” in the Land of Water, proof that the stigma did not fade over the years.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-523","pos":523},{"h":"Ice in the Boruto era","t":"In the Boruto anime another Ice Release user appears: Ryōgi, a boy from the Byakuya Gang, who awakened that ability the day his parents died. The anime does not link him to the Yuki, and he should not be taken as a descendant of the clan, even though he shares the ice nature. He shows that, at that stage, Ice is presented as a rare ability but not exclusive to one known family. Haku remains the only named Yuki in the whole story.","lvl":2,"ep":"boruto-45","pos":701}],"characters":["haku"],"related":["chakra","kirigakure"],"reference":"Official series and chapter guides as reading context.
