{"id":"taijutsu","name":"Taijutsu","japanese":"体術","category":"basics","subtitle":"What the eyes see, the body must reach.","summary":"Physical combat based on movement, strength, coordination and bodily training.","facts":[["Base","Physical training"]],"lvl":0,"sections":[{"h":"Blows and speed","t":"Taijutsu covers hand-to-hand combat techniques: punches, kicks, dodges and maneuvers. Rock Lee, who cannot use ninjutsu or genjutsu, specializes in this alone. Against Sasuke he shows that reading a move does not guarantee being able to dodge it: Sasuke's Sharingan sees every blow, but his body is not fast enough to react. Taijutsu depends on physical training, technique and endurance, and Lee makes it his way of proving that effort can make up for a lack of talent in other branches.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-38","pos":38},{"h":"Copying a style","t":"Sasuke uses what he saw of Lee to create the Lion Combo and win his match against Yoroi in the Chūnin Exam preliminaries. It is an example of how the Sharingan helps one learn taijutsu, though the user needs a body capable of performing it. Lee, for his part, keeps expanding his repertoire and later uses the Drunken Fist, an unpredictable style he triggers by accident when he drinks sake.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-211","pos":211},{"h":"The Eight Gates","t":"Guy teaches Lee to open the Eight Gates, natural limiters on the flow of chakra in the body. Each gate opened multiplies strength and speed, but damages the body more and more. Lee opens five against Gaara and is badly hurt. Opening the eighth gate grants immense power at the cost of the user's life. Some forms of taijutsu use chakra this way to boost themselves, at a cost the body pays later.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-90","pos":90},{"h":"The Gentle Fist","t":"The Hyūga practice a very different taijutsu: the Jūken, or Gentle Fist. Instead of heavy blows, they inject chakra into the opponent's body to close chakra points and damage internal organs. They combine it with the Byakugan, which lets them see those points. Neji masters the style and takes it to techniques like the Rotation and Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms. It is a good example that taijutsu is not always brute force: here chakra and precision weigh more than muscle.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-102","pos":102},{"h":"Guy against Madara","t":"In the war, Guy opens the eighth gate to face Madara and uses Night Guy, a kick that nearly destroys him. It is the most extreme demonstration of taijutsu in the saga: a user without ninjutsu or dōjutsu comes close to putting the most powerful enemy in real trouble. Naruto saves his life with the Sage's chakra, though Guy is left with lasting damage. The Raikage, with his lightning cloak, is another example of taijutsu combined with chakra.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-674","pos":674}],"characters":["sasuke","sakura"],"related":["sharingan","chakra","ninjutsu"],"reference":"Naruto, chapters 37–38: Sasuke and Rock Lee.","sources":[{"title":"Sasuke: su familia y el camino de la venganza","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/news/01_1856"},{"title":"Sakura: formación médica, fuerza y maternidad","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/news/01_1743"}],"figures":["<figure class=\"technique-figure\" data-illustration=\"combat\"><div class=\"illustration-art\"><svg class=\"technique-svg\" viewBox=\"0 0 460 240\" xmlns=\"http://www.w3.org/2000/svg\" role=\"img\" aria-label=\"Two figures in fighting stances with a marked path between them.\"><rect width=\"460\" height=\"240\" rx=\"8\" fill=\"#151520\"/><path d=\"M0 60h460M0 120h460M0 180h460M115 0v240M230 0v240M345 0v240\" stroke=\"#b99bbd\" stroke-opacity=\".05\"/><circle cx=\"230\" cy=\"120\" r=\"102\" fill=\"#b99bbd\" fill-opacity=\".025\"/><g class=\"fx-art\"><g class=\"fx-actor\"><g transform=\"translate(130 111) scale(1)\" stroke=\"#c4b2c9\" stroke-width=\"1.5\" stroke-linejoin=\"round\"><path d=\"m-8 19-6 20-9 12h12l12-22 6 21h12L8 20Z\" fill=\"#272b3c\"/><path d=\"m-12-10-11 8-7 20 7 4 10-17 4 8h18l4-8 9 17 7-4L20-2 10-10Z\" fill=\"#32374b\"/><path d=\"m-11-10 11 8 10-8-2 29H-8Z\" fill=\"#c4b2c9\" fill-opacity=\".3\"/><path d=\"M-8-30q7-8 16 0v13l-8 8-8-8Z\" fill=\"#ccb2a8\"/><path d=\"m-10-26-2-10 6 1 5-5 5 5 7-1 2 11-6-5-7 3-6-3Z\" fill=\"#222436\"/><path d=\"M-9-25H9\" stroke-width=\"3\"/><path d=\"m-4-20 2 0m5 0h2M-9 16H9m-25 28h7m15 0h8\" fill=\"none\" stroke-width=\"1.2\"/></g></g><g class=\"fx-actor\"><g transform=\"translate(326 111) scale(1)\" stroke=\"#a5c1cc\" stroke-width=\"1.5\" stroke-linejoin=\"round\"><path d=\"m-8 19-6 20-9 12h12l12-22 6 21h12L8 20Z\" fill=\"#272b3c\"/><path d=\"m-12-10-11 8-7 20 7 4 10-17 4 8h18l4-8 9 17 7-4L20-2 10-10Z\" fill=\"#32374b\"/><path d=\"m-11-10 11 8 10-8-2 29H-8Z\" fill=\"#a5c1cc\" fill-opacity=\".3\"/><path d=\"M-8-30q7-8 16 0v13l-8 8-8-8Z\" fill=\"#ccb2a8\"/><path d=\"m-10-26-2-10 6 1 5-5 5 5 7-1 2 11-6-5-7 3-6-3Z\" fill=\"#222436\"/><path d=\"M-9-25H9\" stroke-width=\"3\"/><path d=\"m-4-20 2 0m5 0h2M-9 16H9m-25 28h7m15 0h8\" fill=\"none\" stroke-width=\"1.2\"/></g></g><path d=\"m150 99 43-34m-28 74 72-6\" fill=\"none\" stroke=\"#d693ac\" stroke-width=\"3\"/><path class=\"fx-arrow\" pathLength=\"1\" d=\"M185 97L284 97m-7.794228634059948 -4.499999999999999L284 97l-7.794228634059948 4.499999999999999\" fill=\"none\" stroke=\"#c88199\" stroke-width=\"2\" stroke-linecap=\"round\"/><path d=\"M116 177h230\" stroke=\"#9d7b9733\" stroke-width=\"2\"/><text class=\"fx-label\" x=\"230\" y=\"217\" text-anchor=\"middle\" fill=\"#d6c6df\" font-size=\"12\" font-family=\"sans-serif\" letter-spacing=\"1\">DISTANCE · MOVEMENT · RESPONSE</text></g></svg><button class=\"illustration-open\" data-enlarge=\"combat\" aria-label=\"Enlarge illustration of Shinobi combat\"><span class=\"illustration-zoom\">Enlarge ↗</span></button></div><figcaption><strong data-title=\"Shinobi combat\">Shinobi combat · Original diagram</strong><span>A general example of distance and response in combat.
