Its techniques mold water to attack, defend, trap or cover the field. In the Land of Waves, Zabuza traps Kakashi in a Water Prison that requires keeping a hand inside the sphere, and hides his movements with mist. Kakashi ends up copying his techniques with the Sharingan and unleashes the Water Dragon to beat him. Many users need water nearby to reach their full potential, and the conditions of each technique change with the user.","pos":15},{"h":"Tobirama and water from nowhere","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-120","t":"Tobirama Senju, the Second Hokage, is the great benchmark for Water Release. Resurrected during the invasion of Konoha, he creates water walls and dragons without needing any river or lake nearby, something that sets him apart from most users. He masters water without using Wood Release: he shares a surname with Hashirama, but wood is a separate ability. Hiruzen Sarutobi, known for mastering all the basic natures, is also part of Konoha's tradition. Each one's repertoire depends on their training, not their surname.","pos":120},{"h":"Kisame and the flood","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-508","t":"Kisame Hoshigaki, of the Akatsuki, takes Water Release to another scale: he floods the ground to fight in his element, traps his rivals in water prisons with sharks and, fused with his sword Samehada, raises a giant dome against Killer B to wear him down. Since he does not depend on a nearby river, he creates the water he needs. His defeat comes in the war, when Guy chases him through the water and beats him by opening the Seventh Gate; Kisame chooses to be devoured by his own sharks rather than reveal secrets.","pos":508},{"h":"Combinations and other styles","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-557","t":"Water also appears in combinations that make up other abilities. Mei Terumī, the Fifth Mizukage, uses lava and boil, while Haku's Ice Release combines water and wind. Suigetsu, from Sasuke's team, turns his own body into water with his clan's technique. In the war, the resurrected Second Mizukage creates a boil clone that attacks at great speed and thwarts the first attempt to seal him. These abilities show that water is a very versatile base, but handling it on its own does not automatically grant the combinations of other lineages.","pos":557}],"characters":["tobirama","hiruzen"],"related":["chakra","ninjutsu","mokuton","naturalezas-de-chakra"],"reference":"Naruto, chapters 120–123 and 639–644: Tobirama and the use of water.","sources":[{"title":"Hashirama: Butsuma, Mito y la fundación de Konoha","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/news/01_1627"},{"title":"Konohamaru y el legado de su abuelo Hiruzen","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/anime/naruto1/list/01_323"}],"figures":["<figure class=\"technique-figure\" data-illustration=\"suiton\"><div class=\"illustration-art\"><svg class=\"technique-svg\" viewBox=\"0 0 460 240\" xmlns=\"http://www.w3.org/2000/svg\" role=\"img\" aria-label=\"Stylized waves of water advance from a figure in an example of chakra transformation.\"><rect width=\"460\" height=\"240\" rx=\"8\" fill=\"#151520\"/><path d=\"M0 60h460M0 120h460M0 180h460M115 0v240M230 0v240M345 0v240\" stroke=\"#b99bbd\" stroke-opacity=\".05\"/><circle cx=\"230\" cy=\"120\" r=\"102\" fill=\"#b99bbd\" fill-opacity=\".025\"/><g class=\"fx-art\"><g class=\"fx-actor\"><g transform=\"translate(80 127) scale(1)\" stroke=\"#b0cfe1\" stroke-width=\"1.5\" stroke-linejoin=\"round\"><path d=\"m-8 19-6 20-9 12h12l12-22 6 21h12L8 20Z\" fill=\"#272b3c\"/><path d=\"m-12-10-11 8-7 20 7 4 10-17 4 8h18l4-8 9 17 7-4L20-2 10-10Z\" fill=\"#32374b\"/><path d=\"m-11-10 11 8 10-8-2 29H-8Z\" fill=\"#b0cfe1\" fill-opacity=\".3\"/><path d=\"M-8-30q7-8 16 0v13l-8 8-8-8Z\" fill=\"#ccb2a8\"/><path d=\"m-10-26-2-10 6 1 5-5 5 5 7-1 2 11-6-5-7 3-6-3Z\" fill=\"#222436\"/><path d=\"M-9-25H9\" stroke-width=\"3\"/><path d=\"m-4-20 2 0m5 0h2M-9 16H9m-25 28h7m15 0h8\" fill=\"none\" stroke-width=\"1.2\"/></g></g><path d=\"M143 169q37-78 93-62 32 7 18 32-8 14-28 4 15-28-23-19-33 8-38 40 59-40 92-15 27 20 61-37-8 45-49 66Z\" fill=\"#8ec8d52a\" stroke=\"#9ccedd\" stroke-width=\"2\"/><path d=\"M166 184q44-26 81-7t106-12m-173 33q36-12 74-3t103-11\" fill=\"none\" stroke=\"#9ccedd\" stroke-width=\"2\"/><text class=\"fx-label\" x=\"230\" y=\"220\" text-anchor=\"middle\" fill=\"#d6c6df\" font-size=\"12\" font-family=\"sans-serif\" letter-spacing=\"1\">WATER NATURE · TRAINING</text></g></svg><button class=\"illustration-open\" data-enlarge=\"suiton\" aria-label=\"Enlarge illustration of Suiton\"><span class=\"illustration-zoom\">Enlarge ↗</span></button></div><figcaption><strong data-title=\"Suiton\">Suiton · Original diagram</strong><span>Water nature.
