They bear the kanji for “guts” (konjō), a fairly accurate summary of his way of training. The idea is simple: do everything, all day, every day, with extra weight so the body gets used to it. When they come off, the user's speed changes completely. It is the method Might Guy passes on to his student and practices himself. They are not a magic object: the result comes from years of training with them on.","lvl":0},{"h":"Lee against Gaara","t":"In the Chūnin Exam preliminaries, Lee cannot get through Gaara's sand. From the railing, Guy shouts at him to take them off. Lee removes the weights, drops them, and the impact opens two craters in the arena floor: only then does everyone understand how heavy they were and what load he had been fighting with. His speed becomes so high that the sand cannot keep up, and Lee lands a hit on Gaara for the first time. It is one of the most memorable scenes in Part I, precisely because it reveals years of unseen work all at once.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-82","ep":"naruto-48","pos":82},{"h":"The method's limit","t":"Even without the weights, Lee cannot beat Gaara and resorts to opening the Inner Gates to perform the Hidden Lotus. Taking off the weights does not replace technique or spare him the cost of opening the Gates: the strain wrecks his body and, in the end, Gaara crushes his arm and leg with his sand. The fight makes the relationship between the two clear: the weights prepare the body to withstand extreme taijutsu, but do not make it invulnerable. That is why Guy insists as much on daily discipline as on knowing when to use the most dangerous resources.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-86","pos":86},{"h":"Trivia","t":"In the film Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom, Lee wears ankle bars that, besides serving as weights, join together to form weapons such as nunchaku, a staff or a chain. In the anime, Idate Morino is also shown training with weights. In the early Ultimate Ninja video games, Lee's weights were an item that could be thrown at the opponent to slow them down. It is easy to miss that in the manga Lee wears them from his very first appearance: the orange leg warmers, which seem just a costume detail, are what hide them.","lvl":0}],"characters":["rock-lee","guy"],"related":["taijutsu","ocho-puertas","maestros-konoha"],"reference":"Naruto, chapters 80–85 (Rock Lee against Gaara).","sources":[{"title":"Guía oficial de anime: Naruto y Shippuden","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/anime"}],"figures":[]}
