It can be used up close like a sickle, or the chain can be swung to strike, entangle or catch from a distance. The series shows it in many variants: Tenten includes one in the arsenal she unleashes against Temari in the Chūnin Exams, where all her weapons end up deflected by her opponent's fan. Its reach always depends on the skill of whoever handles it, and the profile does not describe real weapon techniques.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-73","ep":"naruto-43","pos":73},{"h":"Hanzō of the Salamander","t":"Its best-known user is Hanzō, the leader of Amegakure who in his youth named Jiraiya, Tsunade and Orochimaru the Sannin. His kusarigama has a peculiarity: instead of swinging the weight, he whirls the sickle itself on the chain, nearly a meter long and spiked. He combines it with close combat and poison. Over the years his skill faded, and in Amegakure's past he kidnaps Konan to force Nagato to kill Yahiko, a crime that triggers the birth of Pain and his own downfall.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-447","pos":447},{"h":"Ibuse's poison","t":"The poison that goes with Hanzō does not come from the weapon: it comes from Ibuse, the giant salamander he summons, which releases a toxic cloud. Hanzō also has a venom gland implanted in his body, so whatever his sickle touches can be poisoned. Revived with the Impure World Reincarnation in the Fourth War, he paralyzes a retreating division with that cloud, until Mifune arrives with the samurai. The two recognize each other at once: they had fought in their youth, and the duel picks up that fight.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-531","pos":531},{"h":"Hanzō's end","t":"As sword and sickle cross, Mifune and Hanzō remember their first duel, in which Hanzō spared the young samurai's life. Talking about what once was, Hanzō regains awareness of his past life. Since the Impure World Reincarnation keeps him from stopping the fight, he stabs himself with his own poisoned kusarigama: the poison paralyzes his body and lets the samurai seal him. It is one of the few dignified ends Kabuto's technique allows, and the kusarigama, which had been his weapon of attack, ends up being what sets him free.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-532","ep":"shippuden-272","pos":532},{"h":"Other variants","t":"Each user adapts the weapon to their style. Hidan wields his scythe on a retractable cable that works on the same blade-plus-chain logic; and in Pain's attack, Saisu Kamano uses a folding version. In memories of the clan era, Madara pairs his gunbai with a chained sickle. None of the variants share Hanzō's poison: that trait belongs to him and his salamander.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-562","pos":562}],"characters":["hanzo"],"related":["aldeas","edo-tensei"],"reference":"Naruto, chapters 530–532 (Hanzō against Mifune).","sources":[{"title":"Guía oficial de anime: Naruto y Shippuden","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/anime"}],"figures":[]}
