It is a bit heavier than a common one, and its prongs make it more dangerous in close combat. It is Minato's signature weapon, which he uses to mark points he can jump to instantly with the Flying Thunder God. The kunai is only the mark: the jump depends on the user mastering the technique. Without it, it is just another kunai.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-244","pos":244},{"h":"The gift to Kakashi","t":"In Kakashi Gaiden, during the Third Great Ninja War, Minato gives one of these kunai to his student to celebrate his promotion to jōnin. He explains that as long as Kakashi carries it, he can come to his aid. On the mission, his teammates throw the kunai behind enemy lines and Minato appears next to each one, taking out the Iwagakure ninja before they understand what is happening. Later, when Kakashi and Rin are surrounded, Minato arrives in an instant thanks to the mark. The Gaiden ends by revealing that this teacher is the future Fourth Hokage, the Yellow Flash.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-244","pos":244},{"h":"Against the masked man","t":"In the memory of the night of the Nine-Tails' attack, Minato faces the masked man. He throws his kunai, the masked man lets it pass through him with his intangibility and thinks he is safe, but Minato teleports to the mark right behind him and hits him with a Rasengan. In that same fight he places a seal on his body and manages to wrest control of the Nine-Tails from him. The fight shows the weapon's true strength: the opponent can dodge the kunai, but not the place where it landed. It also shows its limit: an opponent who spots it can avoid the marked area, and Minato has to create openings to use it.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-503","pos":503},{"h":"Variants and other users","t":"Tobirama Senju, creator of the Flying Thunder God, uses ordinary kunai engraved with his own formula, without the three prongs. In the Fourth War, the Hokage's guard performs the technique together to transport Mei Terumī alongside the other Kage, and when the revived Hokage reach the battlefield, Minato and Tobirama combine it to send enormous attacks away. Minato also keeps these kunai at his safe houses so he can get there fast when needed. Naruto, Kakashi and Rock Lee are also among those who handle these kunai at some point, though without the technique they are nothing more than well-made weapons.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-641","pos":641},{"h":"Trivia","t":"In the manga they have no name of their own: Minato calls them “Flying Thunder God kunai” in the film The Lost Tower, where he also drives one into an energy source to seal it. Their three-bladed design became one of the series' most recognizable symbols. Over time, simply seeing a three-bladed kunai stuck in the ground came to work as a warning to the reader: someone might appear there at any moment. It also became a staple of merchandise and cosplay, to the point that many fans recognize it before the ordinary kunai.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-641","pos":641}],"characters":["minato","tobirama"],"related":["hiraishin","kunai","fuinjutsu"],"reference":"Naruto, chapters 239–244 (Kakashi Gaiden) and 503 (Minato against the masked man).","sources":[{"title":"Minato: el nacimiento de Naruto y el sellado del Nueve Colas","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/news/01_1519"},{"title":"Tobirama: Segundo Hokage y creador de técnicas","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/news/01_1694"}],"figures":[]}
