Charged with chakra, it detonates after a set time, remotely or when lit. It is stuck to a surface, wrapped around a kunai to throw, or hidden in a trap set up in advance. It is the shinobi world's standard explosive and one of the most basic tools there is. It works even in the rain. To detonate it remotely the Rat sign is usually used, and several can be set off in a chain to box the opponent in. There are also fake tags, used to deceive. The profile describes a fictional device and gives no real-world instructions.","lvl":0},{"h":"Yashamaru's last mission","t":"In the memory Gaara shares with Naruto, Yashamaru, his uncle and caretaker, attacks him at night. When Gaara overpowers him, Yashamaru reveals that he was sent by the Kazekage and never truly loved him. Then he opens his vest: it is covered in explosive tags, and he blows himself up trying to take Gaara with him. The sand protects him, but that night Gaara carves the kanji for love into his forehead and decides to live only for himself. It is one of the harshest uses of an object the series usually shows as a trap or a tactical tool.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-131","pos":131},{"h":"Shikamaru's trap","t":"After Asuma's death, Shikamaru prepares his revenge against Hidan with a plan worked out to the last detail. He catches him with his shadow, separates him from Kakuzu and leads him into a Nara clan forest where he had placed explosive tags in the trees. Once Hidan is surrounded, Shikamaru triggers the trap: the chain detonation blows him apart and drops him into the pit where he ends up buried alive. The tags do not win the fight on their own, but they show Shikamaru's style: strategy, preparing the ground and a common tool used at exactly the right moment.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-338","pos":338},{"h":"Six hundred billion tags","t":"When Tobi shows up in Amegakure, Konan is waiting with a sea of explosive paper: some six hundred billion tags that detonate in a chain for ten minutes, long enough to outlast her opponent's intangibility. It is the most spectacular use of tags in the entire series and proof that quantity, preparation and setting count as much as the object. Earlier, Hanzō had combined tags with his Fire Style to create a formation of explosive flames in his attempt to kill Nagato.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-511","pos":511},{"h":"Users and variants","t":"Tenten ties them to her weapons and packs them into metal spheres that burst in every direction. Naruto and almost any genin use them on kunai to attack from range. Deidara does not need them: his explosive clay fills the same role with his own technique. There are named variants, such as Shibuki, the sword of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, which carries a roll of explosive tags on its blade and detonates with every blow. The anime and the novels show many more users. The principle is always the same: the tag has to be prepared and placed in advance, and its effectiveness depends on when and where it goes off.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-523","pos":523}],"characters":["yashamaru","konan","tenten","naruto"],"related":["kunai","fuinjutsu","papel"],"reference":"Naruto, chapter 131 (Yashamaru in Gaara's memory) and chapters 509–511 (Konan against Obito).","sources":[{"title":"Guía oficial de anime: Naruto y Shippuden","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/anime"}],"figures":[]}
