Its members can turn their bodies into smoke and still interact with the physical world. The transformation is imperfect: sometimes it activates on its own. It is not travel to another dimension like Kamui: the body stays in the same place and only changes form. If an Iburi in smoke form is exposed to a current of air, they scatter forever and die. That is why the clan lives in caves where the air barely moves, and its members do not usually live long. Instead of headstones, they plant trees for their dead, believing their souls watch over them. That fragility explains why Orochimaru saw the clan as valuable research material.","lvl":1,"ep":"shippuden-353","pos":648},{"h":"Orochimaru and the clan","t":"Orochimaru found the Iburi and used his curse marks to partly stabilize the ability. In exchange for his continued research, the clan handed him several children, because the power is stronger the younger the user. In the end, Orochimaru killed the whole clan for their blood, except for Yukimi. Kakashi and Kinoe rescue her and agree to report nothing about the Iburi.
