The most famous is Kisame, one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, who appears alongside Itachi when the two slip into Konoha looking for Naruto. His sword, Samehada, does not cut but shaves and absorbs chakra. Asuma and Kurenai can barely handle him until Kakashi steps in, and then Guy drives him off. The surname means “dried persimmon”, in keeping with the swordsmen's fruit names.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-143","pos":143},{"h":"Kisame and Samehada","t":"Kisame has enormous chakra reserves, comparable to a tailed beast's without having one, and combines them with water techniques: water prisons, sharks and great masses of water he uses as his own terrain. Samehada feeds on chakra and even has a will: against Killer B, Kisame fuses with it and takes on a shark form. At the end of that fight he seems to have been beheaded, but it was a trap: he had hidden inside the sword, which Killer B unknowingly takes back to Kumogakure. Sword and owner work almost as a single being.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-487","pos":487},{"h":"Kisame's past and end","t":"When Guy defeats Kisame in the war, Aoba searches his memories and his past comes out: in Kirigakure he worked as an executioner in the cipher division, tasked with killing his own comrades so they would not leak secrets. There he also met a man who called himself Madara Uchiha, the origin of his joining the Akatsuki. To avoid revealing information, Kisame bites his tongue to wake himself and lets his own sharks devour him. Guy acknowledges he had an end worthy of a shinobi. His life explains the surname's bloodthirsty reputation.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-508","pos":508},{"h":"Shizuma in the Boruto anime","t":"The Boruto anime adds Shizuma Hoshigaki, an anime-only character. He is a former teacher at the Mist Academy who hates the peaceful era and wants to bring back the days of the “Bloody Mist”. He says the Hoshigaki name was erased from the memorials because in peacetime his family was seen as a nuisance because of its violent reputation. He steals Samehada and ends up fusing with it, turning into a shark-like creature, until Boruto, Kagura and Mitsuki defeat him. He shares a surname with Kisame, but the story does not establish a father-son relationship between them.","lvl":2,"ep":"boruto-31","pos":701}],"characters":["kisame","shizuma"],"related":["chakra","kirigakure"],"reference":"Official series and chapter guides as reading context.
