Hiruzen then recalls why his student had to flee the village: he was secretly experimenting on Konoha ninja, seeking a way to master every technique and defeat death. That past explains his interest in Sasuke. For Orochimaru, a young body with the Sharingan is the perfect vessel for his next transfer, not the person who lives in it.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-121","pos":121},{"h":"The curse mark as an experiment","t":"The curse mark is Orochimaru's most visible experiment in Part I. He leaves it on Sasuke in the Forest of Death, and Anko, who bears it too, reveals she was his student. The mark grants power at a high risk: many who receive it do not survive. The Sound Four and Kimimaro use it up to a second level that deforms their bodies, and Kimimaro was at the same time a candidate vessel whom an illness took out of the running. The article on the curse mark details how it works.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-216","pos":216},{"h":"Hideouts and prisoners","t":"When Sasuke takes control after defeating Orochimaru, he tours his hideouts and finds the results of years of work. He frees Suigetsu from a lab tank, runs into prisoners branded with curse marks and reaches the cell of Jūgo, a young man with murderous urges whom only Kimimaro could calm. The link between Jūgo and the mark shows that Orochimaru did not invent the seal from nothing: he started from bodies like Jūgo's. The hideouts are not mere hiding places but research centers with living subjects.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-352","pos":352},{"h":"Yamato and Hashirama's cells","t":"Yamato, the captain who accompanies Team Kakashi, commands Wood Style, a power associated with the First Hokage. His origin comes to light before Orochimaru: as a baby he was one of sixty children grafted with Hashirama's cells in an experiment, and the only one who survived. Years later, Danzō appears with an arm sustained by those same cells, and Tobi hints that Orochimaru had something to do with it. Interest in Hashirama's body runs through the whole series, and Orochimaru was one of the first to try to exploit it.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-481","pos":481},{"h":"Kabuto, heir to the lab","t":"Kabuto carries on his master's work on his own. He grafts Orochimaru's remains onto himself, perfects the Impure World Reincarnation and uses it to build the army of revived dead for the Fourth Great War. During the war he captures Yamato to use his Wood Style to produce more White Zetsu, and later reveals he absorbed the abilities of Karin, Suigetsu and Jūgo and became a sage after training in Ryūchi Cave. That leap ends when Itachi traps him in Izanami and forces him to face himself.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-586","pos":586},{"h":"Orochimaru and Shin in the Boruto anime","t":"In the Boruto era, Orochimaru lives under Konoha's watch and keeps researching, now with more or less tacit permission. In Sarada's arc, Naruto and Sasuke's group visits him to understand Shin Uchiha, and he explains that Shin was one of his test subjects, with a body able to accept others' organs. Shin's clones, created from him, end up rebelling. The episode shows that old experiments still have consequences even when their author is no longer the main enemy.","lvl":2,"ep":"boruto-22","pos":701},{"h":"Mitsuki, a created son","t":"Mitsuki joins Team 7 introducing himself as Orochimaru's son, but he was not born the usual way. The anime tells that he woke up with no memories in Suigetsu's care, met Orochimaru and encountered another being created like him, before deciding on his own to move to Konoha, drawn by Boruto. Orochimaru lets him choose his path, an attitude that contrasts with his past. Mitsuki is at once the Sannin's most successful experiment and proof that his creations can have a will of their own.","lvl":2,"ep":"boruto-39","pos":701}],"characters":["orochimaru","hiruzen","anko","sasuke","kimimaro","jugo","suigetsu","yamato","danzo","kabuto","shin","shin-clones","mitsuki"],"related":["sello-maldito","mokuton","edo-tensei","trasplantes","orochimaru","senjutsu","izanami"],"reference":"Naruto, chapters 49–50, 121, 216, 291–297, 346–357, 478–481, 514 and 579–586; Boruto, anime, episodes 22–23 and 39.","sources":[{"title":"Guía oficial de anime: Naruto y Shippuden","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/anime"},{"title":"Sasuke: su familia y el camino de la venganza","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/news/01_1856"},{"title":"Guía oficial de anime: Boruto","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/anime"}],"figures":[]}
