When activated, the veins around the eyes stand out and the user sees through objects, at great distance and in almost every direction. Most importantly, they see the body's chakra network, including the points through which it flows. Neji uses it against Hinata in the Chūnin Exam preliminaries to read each of her moves. The range varies with the user and their training, and the eye does not copy techniques: its strength is in seeing, not imitating.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-80","pos":80},{"h":"The Gentle Fist","t":"The Byakugan is combined with the Jūken, the clan's Gentle Fist. Instead of heavy blows, the user drives chakra into the opponent's body to damage internal organs and close chakra points, so the opponent can no longer mold it normally. Neji shows the Rotation, a defensive spin, and Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, which block the flow all at once. Eye and style work together, but they are different things: having the Byakugan does not mean mastering the Jūken, which takes years of practice within the clan.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-102","pos":102},{"h":"The blind spot","t":"The Byakugan's vision is not perfect. Neji has a small blind spot behind the nape of his neck, and Kidōmaru discovers it during the Sasuke retrieval mission and attacks from there with arrows. Neji makes up for it with his reading of the fight and wins by sending chakra up the thread connecting him to his rival. The example shows how a dōjutsu's weaknesses work: they do not cancel out the user, but an attentive rival can exploit them, and the outcome depends on how the eye's owner responds.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-197","pos":197},{"h":"Coveted eyes","t":"The Byakugan can also be transplanted. Ao, from Kirigakure, carries one obtained in battle and uses it at the Kage Summit to discover that Danzō hides Shisui's Sharingan in his eye. Later, Fū, of Root, tries to steal that eye by possessing him, without success. The case explains the Hyūga's zeal in protecting their eye's secret with the branch house seal. During the war we also see that Kaguya Ōtsutsuki has a Byakugan of her own, along with a third eye on her forehead.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-679","pos":679},{"h":"The day Himawari awakened it","t":"In the story of the day Naruto takes office as Hokage, also told in the Boruto anime, little Himawari awakens the Byakugan in a fit of anger during a fight with her brother and knocks her father out with a precise strike. The scene is comic, but it shows something concrete: Hinata's daughter inherited the clan's eye. Awakening it does not mean mastering the Jūken or having received a Hyūga heir's training. What she does with that eye depends, from then on, on the training she receives.","lvl":2,"ep":"boruto-18","pos":701},{"h":"Himawari and Boruto's eye","t":"In the anime, Himawari uses the Byakugan again, for example when trying to escape a kidnapping with her friend Osuka, though it is Kawaki who ends up rescuing them. It is anime-only material. Boruto, by contrast, does not have the Byakugan: his right eye shows something else. The anime calls it the Jōgan and credits it with sensing chakra anomalies, while the manga leaves only Momoshiki's warning and saves other revelations for later; the archive does not present them as a single confirmed ability. Mixing bloodlines does not add up powers: each child shows what they awaken.","lvl":2,"ep":"boruto-266","pos":758}],"characters":["hinata","himawari","boruto","neji","hiashi","hizashi","hanabi"],"related":["juken","dojutsu","hyuga","kekkei-genkai"],"reference":"Naruto, chapters 78–80, 101 and 194–198; The Day Naruto Became Hokage.","sources":[{"title":"Hinata: linaje Hyūga, Byakugan y familia","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/news/01_1668"},{"title":"Familia de Boruto: contexto para la ficha de Himawari","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/news/01_1745"},{"title":"Boruto: familia y primeros pasos del Equipo 7","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/news/01_1745"},{"title":"Neji: Hizashi, la rama secundaria y su propia elección","url":"https://naruto-official.com/en/news/01_1817"}],"figures":["<figure class=\"technique-figure\" data-illustration=\"byakugan\"><div class=\"illustration-art\"><svg class=\"technique-svg\" viewBox=\"0 0 460 240\" xmlns=\"http://www.w3.org/2000/svg\" role=\"img\" aria-label=\"A lavender eye observes a figure with connected points that represent the chakra network.\"><rect width=\"460\" height=\"240\" rx=\"8\" fill=\"#151520\"/><path d=\"M0 60h460M0 120h460M0 180h460M115 0v240M230 0v240M345 0v240\" stroke=\"#b99bbd\" stroke-opacity=\".05\"/><circle cx=\"230\" cy=\"120\" r=\"102\" fill=\"#b99bbd\" fill-opacity=\".025\"/><g class=\"fx-art\"><g class=\"fx-eye\" transform=\"translate(126 106) scale(0.8461538461538461)\"><defs><clipPath id=\"__illustration__-eye-126-106\" clipPathUnits=\"userSpaceOnUse\"><path d=\"M-83 0Q0-65 83 0Q0 44-83 0Z\"/></clipPath></defs><path d=\"M-86 0Q0-78 86 0Q0 72-86 0Z\" fill=\"#cdb9c8\" stroke=\"#82617d\" stroke-width=\"2\"/><path d=\"M-83 0Q0-65 83 0Q0 44-83 0Z\" fill=\"#eee0df\"/><g data-detail=\"iris\" clip-path=\"url(#__illustration__-eye-126-106)\"><circle r=\"51\" fill=\"#d4cbe4\" stroke=\"#d2c4e8\" stroke-width=\"2\"/><circle r=\"46\" fill=\"none\" stroke=\"#d2c4e8\" stroke-opacity=\".35\" stroke-width=\"4\"/><g class=\"fx-spin\"><circle r=\"34\" fill=\"none\" stroke=\"#b0a0c8\" stroke-opacity=\".5\"/></g><circle r=\"10\" fill=\"#c7bcda\" stroke=\"#d2c4e8\" stroke-width=\"2\"/><ellipse cx=\"-19\" cy=\"-26\" rx=\"10\" ry=\"5\" fill=\"#fff1e9\" fill-opacity=\".7\"/><path d=\"M-41 17q10 20 31 24\" fill=\"none\" stroke=\"#d2c4e8\" stroke-width=\"2\" stroke-opacity=\".45\"/></g><path d=\"M-86 0Q0-78 86 0m-164-14 15 3m124 0 14-8\" fill=\"none\" stroke=\"#403040\" stroke-width=\"5\"/><path d=\"M-80-17Q0-85 80-17\" fill=\"none\" stroke=\"#82617d\" stroke-width=\"2\"/></g><path class=\"fx-arrow\" pathLength=\"1\" d=\"M207 106L267 106m-7.794228634059948 -4.499999999999999L267 106l-7.794228634059948 4.499999999999999\" fill=\"none\" stroke=\"#c4b4dc\" stroke-width=\"2\" stroke-linecap=\"round\"/><g class=\"fx-actor\"><g transform=\"translate(329 117) scale(1.25)\" stroke=\"#c4b4dc\" stroke-width=\"1.5\" stroke-linejoin=\"round\"><path d=\"m-8 19-6 20-9 12h12l12-22 6 21h12L8 20Z\" fill=\"#272b3c\"/><path d=\"m-12-10-11 8-7 20 7 4 10-17 4 8h18l4-8 9 17 7-4L20-2 10-10Z\" fill=\"#32374b\"/><path d=\"m-11-10 11 8 10-8-2 29H-8Z\" fill=\"#c4b4dc\" fill-opacity=\".3\"/><path d=\"M-8-30q7-8 16 0v13l-8 8-8-8Z\" fill=\"#ccb2a8\"/><path d=\"m-10-26-2-10 6 1 5-5 5 5 7-1 2 11-6-5-7 3-6-3Z\" fill=\"#222436\"/><path d=\"M-9-25H9\" stroke-width=\"3\"/><path d=\"m-4-20 2 0m5 0h2M-9 16H9m-25 28h7m15 0h8\" fill=\"none\" stroke-width=\"1.2\"/></g></g><path d=\"M329 104v40m-12-31h24m-12 15-11 29m11-29 12 29\" stroke=\"#e4c4f4\" stroke-width=\"2\"/><circle cx=\"329\" cy=\"104\" r=\"3\" fill=\"#e4c4f4\"/><circle cx=\"329\" cy=\"117\" r=\"3\" fill=\"#e4c4f4\"/><circle cx=\"329\" cy=\"131\" r=\"3\" fill=\"#e4c4f4\"/><circle cx=\"329\" cy=\"143\" r=\"3\" fill=\"#e4c4f4\"/><text class=\"fx-label\" x=\"126\" y=\"211\" text-anchor=\"middle\" fill=\"#d6c6df\" font-size=\"12\" font-family=\"sans-serif\" letter-spacing=\"1\">HYŪGA PERCEPTION</text><text class=\"fx-label\" x=\"329\" y=\"211\" text-anchor=\"middle\" fill=\"#d6c6df\" font-size=\"12\" font-family=\"sans-serif\" letter-spacing=\"1\">CHAKRA NETWORK</text></g></svg><button class=\"illustration-open\" data-enlarge=\"byakugan\" aria-label=\"Enlarge illustration of Byakugan\"><span class=\"illustration-zoom\">Enlarge ↗</span></button></div><figcaption><strong data-title=\"Byakugan\">Byakugan · Original diagram</strong><span>Perception of the chakra system, tied to the Hyūga.
