Jiraiya has Naruto sign the toad scroll and teaches him to summon them. In the invasion of Konoha, Naruto calls Gamabunta, the great toad boss, and tames him to face Shukaku. Gamabunta has two sons, Gamakichi and Gamatatsu, whom Naruto often summons. These are the only family relationships in this archive: all of them are between toads, not between toads and their summoners.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-135","pos":135},{"h":"Other Part I summons","t":"Each ninja signs with their own kind of creature. Kakashi summons his ninja hounds, led by Pakkun, who tracks and carries messages. Hiruzen summons Enma, the Monkey King, who turns into an unbreakable staff. In the fight between the three Sannin, Manda, Orochimaru's snake, Katsuyu, Tsunade's slug, and Gamabunta clash. Manda demands sacrifices for every summoning, which shows that a contract is an agreement with conditions and not absolute obedience.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-170","pos":170},{"h":"Mount Myōboku","t":"In Shippūden, Naruto travels to Mount Myōboku, home of the toads. There, Fukasaku and Shima, the two toad sages and a married couple, train him in Sage Mode as they once trained Jiraiya. Fukasaku goes with Jiraiya on his investigation of Pain and later falls during the attack on Konoha. Gerotora, another toad, keeps in his body the key to the Nine-Tails' seal, which Jiraiya entrusts to him and which passes to Naruto. Katsuyu protects the villagers during Pain's attack.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-500","pos":500},{"h":"Sasuke's snakes","t":"Sasuke summons snakes too. He uses Manda as a shield against Deidara's explosion, and the great snake dies in the process. Later he works with Aoda, a snake far more loyal to him than Manda was to Orochimaru. Summoning snakes does not mean Sasuke inherits Orochimaru's techniques: each contract is independent. Each ninja's relationship with their summon depends on how they treat it: Aoda's loyalty contrasts with Manda's constant distrust.","lvl":1},{"h":"Summons of the Boruto era","t":"New creatures appear in Boruto. Sumire is bound to Nue, a chimera born from a Root project she inherits from her family; Nue absorbs chakra and over time works with her as a partner. Its development belongs mostly to the anime. Aoda, Sasuke's snake, remains at his side, and Kashin Koji uses toads to track and spy.
