Their specialty is turning calories into chakra and using it to change the size of their own bodies, which is why they eat a lot and carry large reserves: their techniques burn chakra very quickly and run out in a long fight. For generations they have formed trios with the Nara and the Yamanaka, the Ino–Shika–Chō formula, in which the Akimichi brings brute strength and cooperation. The kanji for “food” often appears on the clan's clothing, and several of its members have markings on their cheeks and plated armor. Chōza and Chōji share the clan's foundation, but each member has their own repertoire, and not every technique passes the same way from one generation to the next.","lvl":0},{"h":"Expansion and the clan's techniques","t":"The core technique is the partial or full expansion of the body, the Baika no Jutsu. Attacks are built on it, such as the Human Bullet Tank, in which the user becomes a giant ball that rolls over everything, and expanding a single arm or hand to strike from afar. In the Chūnin Exam, Chōji loses to Dosu precisely because sound passes through his defense: growing does not protect him from everything. The detail easily missed at first is the cost: each transformation uses up reserves that must be replenished by eating, which is why provisions and snacks are not a running gag but part of the technique.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-87","pos":87},{"h":"The three colored pills","t":"When ordinary calories are not enough, the clan keeps the Three Colored Pills. The green one, spinach, the yellow one, curry, and the red one, chili, convert more and more body fat into chakra. The last one grants enormous power and butterfly wings made of chakra, but it burns the user up until they are on the verge of death. Chōji takes them one after another against Jirōbō during the pursuit of Sasuke, remembering how Shikamaru stood up for him as a child. He wins the fight, but ends up so thin and weak that only Konoha's medics manage to save his life. It is the clan's most extreme technique and its clearest warning.","lvl":0,"ch":"naruto-235","pos":235},{"h":"The alliance of three clans","t":"The pact with the Nara and the Yamanaka is more than a custom. To strengthen it, a member of the Sarutobi clan gives special earrings to each generation when its heirs are promoted to chūnin; from then on they are considered adults. Asuma played that role for Chōji, Shikamaru and Ino, and his death leaves a mark on the team. In the war, the three must face him resurrected, and Chōji, urged on by Ino, Shikamaru and his father, spreads the butterfly wings without needing pills. That moment shows that chakra control can replace the shortcut that once nearly killed him, and that the inherited trio still works as it did in the previous generation.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-534","pos":534},{"h":"Chōza and the earlier generations","t":"Chōza is the clan's fifteenth head and Chōji is destined to be the sixteenth, so the line of heads is long and documented. During Pain's attack, Chōza arrives with his team to rescue Kakashi and then sends Chōji to bring information to Tsunade; the son believes his father dead until she confirms he is still alive. Further back in time is Torifu Akimichi, a jōnin of the Second Hokage's personal squad along with Danzō, Kagami Uchiha, Hiruzen, Koharu and Homura, later present at the defense against the Nine-Tails. Torifu shows that the clan has been with Konoha since its founding.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-481","pos":481},{"h":"The new generation","t":"In the epilogue, Chōji is married to Karui, a Kumogakure kunoichi, and they have a daughter, Chōchō. Karui is part of the family through that bond, but she does not thereby inherit the expansion techniques: they belong to the Akimichi lineage, not to the marriage. Chōchō inherits the carefree temperament and the appetite, and with Shikadai and Inojin forms the new Ino–Shika–Chō trio, the pact's third consecutive generation. The curious detail is that the trio now has a member with Kumo features, something the Boruto anime itself uses for some jokes and for Chōchō's doubts about her family.","lvl":1,"ch":"naruto-700","pos":700},{"h":"Chōchō in Boruto","t":"In the Boruto anime, Chōchō appears as an Academy student and then a genin of Team 10, under Moegi's command. In the Chūnin Exam she faces Shinki of the Sand and shows a serious, determined side that contrasts with her usual attitude. She uses the clan's expansion and also the butterfly form, though for her it looks more like a tool of her own than the last resort it was for her father. The clan remains one of Konoha's pillars in the new era, with Chōji as its head and the pact with the Nara and the Yamanaka intact.","lvl":2,"ep":"boruto-59","pos":704}],"characters":["choza","choji","chocho","torifu","karui"],"related":["chakra"],"reference":"Official series and chapter guides as reading context.
